Applying Huxley equation to different components of genital tract, maximum uterine relative growth rate was achieved when live weight ranged 15 - 20 kg. Likewise, duplication of uterine weight at 120 and 330 days of age coincided with a high degree of folicular differentiation and appearance of the first corpus luteum, respectively. This latter event was also associated to a significant increase in serum progestagens concentration. In conclusion, it seems likely that puberty in female capybaras is achieved when they are 10 to 12 months old.
