Resumen: Se trabajó para determinar la capacidad neutralizante de un suero antiofídico, sobre las actividades hemorrágica, edematizante e inflamatoria inducidas por veneno de Bothrops jararaca de Argentina. Se utilizó suero antiofídico tetravalente de origen equino, producido en el Instituto Malbrán. La capacidad neutralizante mostró mayor efecto sobre las actividades letal y hemorrágica que sobre la mionecrosis y el edema. La inoculación independiente de veneno y de antiveneno, no neutraliza la actividad edematizante. La mionecrosis fue parcialmente neutralizada solamente cuando el suero se administró antes que el veneno, sin embargo el antiveneno neutraliza bien la actividad hemorrágica. La escasa eficiencia en la neutralización del edema y la mionecrosis es debida al rápido desarrollo de tales efectos. Abstract: We worked for determining the neutralizing activity of the antivenom on hemorrhagic, edemaforming and immflamatory activities induced by Bothrops jararaca venom from Argentina. Polyvalent equine antivenom produced in Malbran Institute was used. The neutralizing capacity showed greater effect on the lethal and hemorrhagic than on mionecrosis and edema. The independent inoculation of the venom and antivenom does not neutralize the edema forming activity. Myonecrosis was partially neutralized only when the serun was administered before the venom. However, the antivenom neutralize the hemorrhagic activity well, the lack of efficiency in the neutralization of edema and mionecrosis is due to the fast development of those effects.
