| Sumario, etc. | La toxicidad de un herbicida formulado a base de glifosato (Roundup®) fue evaluada en peces de agua dulce utilizando la especie Cichlasoma dimerus. Mediante ensayos de toxicidad aguda se determinaron los valores de CL50, y los efectos histopatológicos se analizaron en ensayos de exposición aguda y en ensayos subletales. La CL50-96hs fue de 24,35 mg L-1 nominal de glifosato como ingrediente activo. Las primeras alteraciones producidas en las branquias fueron lesiones degenerativas y necróticas en el epitelio, con destrucción del área capilar de las laminillas, congestión y hemorragia; luego de 96 horas de exposición hubo hipertrofia e hiperplasia epitelial, y fusión laminillar. En el hígado se produjo tumefacción y necrosis de hepatocitos en las zonas periovenosas. A las 72 horas posteriores a la exposición las branquias aún tenían una leve hiperplasia epitelial en los filamentos, pero a las 120 horas el tejido branquial se había regenerado completamente. Durante la exposición a concentraciones subletales en las branquias se produjeron alteraciones hipertróficas e hiperplásicas en el epitelio de filamentos y laminillas, con fusión laminillar; aunque en el período de recuperación se recobró parcialmente la estructura normal, persistiendo una leve hiperplasia epitelial en los extremos de los filamentos. The toxicity of a commerical herbicide with glyphosate as active ingredient (Roundup®) was evaluated on the freshwater fish specie Cichlasoma dimerus. The CL50 values were determined through acute toxicity tests, and the histopathological effects were analyzed in acute sublethal bioassays. The CL50-96 hs. was of 24,35 mg L-1 nominal of glyphosate as active ingredient. The first alterations produced in the gills were degenerative and necrotic lesions in the epithelium, with destruction of the capillary area in the lamellae, congestion and hemorrhage; and after 96 hours exposition there was epithelial hypertrophy and hyperplasia, and lamellar fusion. Swelling and necrosis of hepatocytes was produced in the perivenous zones of the liver. To 72 subsequent hours to the exposition, the gills yet had a mild epithelial hyperplasia in the filaments, but to 120 hours the gill tissue had been regenerated thoroughly. During the exposition to sublethal concentations, in the gills were produced hyperthrophic and hyperplastic alterations in the lamellae and filaments epithelium, with lamellae fusion; though in the recovery period the normal structure was partially recovered, but a mild epithelial hyperplasia was persistent in the filament ends. |
