The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Embrapa, through its 45 units spread throughout Brazil, develops research of collection, characterization and conservation of medicinal plants in all biomes. Brazil has six biomes: Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Pampas. The definition of biome is set for life (plant and animal) constituted by the grouping of contiguous vegetation types identifiable on a regional scale, with similar conditions and shared history of changes, resulting in peculiar biological diversity.
