Both species have 2n=2x=22 chromosomes. The karyotype of L. muehlbergianus, is composed by 16m + 6 sm chromosomes and that of L. leucanthus, by 14m + 6sm + 2st. Karyological information allows to distinguish thes species, especially by karyotype formula, complement length and asymetric index
