Abstract: A review of Hypostomus boulengeri (Eigenmann et Kennedy) and description of two new species from Paraguay (Pisces, Siluriformes, Loricariidae). From the Paraguay River and affluents (Paraná System, Paraguay), Hypostomus plecostomus auctorum is identified as Hypostomus boulengeri (Eigenmann & Kennedy). Hypostomus piratatu sp. nov. and Hypostomus latifrons sp. nov. are described. These species are compared with others of the Paraná System. A lectotype of Hypostomus commersonii is designated.
