520 _aThe freshwater fishes of Argentina are included in two major biogeographic subregions, named Brazilian and Austral. The río Colorado has been considered as the limit between both subregions. Numerous collecting trips in the río Colorado show that the fishes belong to both zoogeographic subregions. Our results indicate that the río Colorado is the northern limit of the Austral subregion and the río Negro represents the southern limit of the Brazilian subregion. There is an overlapping of Brazilian and Austral fish-fauna in the área between both rivers
