Con ocular micrométrico, se obtuvieron los diámetros promedios nuclear y celular para las poblaciones ovocitarias consideradas acordes a sus distintas etapas de crecimiento. Se calculó el Indice Nucleoplasmático como: (Vol. Nuclear/Vol. celular-Vol. Nuclear) x 100 asumiendo que ambos volúmenes son semejantes al de una esfera. Los valores de estos índices fueron tratados según un test de 't. Del análisis surgen diferencias significativas (p < 0.01), que permitieron clasificar a los ovocitos en OV.0 (Ovogonios), OV.1 (Cromatino-Nucleolar), OV.2 (Basófiloperinuclear), OV.3 (Núcleo vitelínico) y OV.at (Atrésico). Esta clasificación es corroborada además por las diferencias histoquímicas observadas en los cortes. De las obsevaciones se muestra que P. albicans es una especie con un patrón asincrónico o metacrónico de desarrollo ovocitario. Sixty females of Pimelodus albicans were collected from the port area of Buenos Aires between Oct/90 and Feb/92 and their ovaries were fixed in Bouin`s fluid and included in paraffin. Afterwards 5-8 µm thick seriate sections were cut and stained with H&E, Alcian blue, Mallory`s and PAS. Both, cellular and nuclear average diameters were obtained for predetermined oocyte populations, according to their growing stages. A Nucleoplasmatic Index was then calculated: (Nuclear Vol/ Cell. Vol. - Nuclear Vol. ) x 100 assuming that both volumes were spheric-like. The indexes tested through 't' test, showed significant differences at (P < 0.01). This allow us to classify the oocytes as. OV.0 (or Oogonia), OV.1 (or Cromatine-Nucleolar), OV.2 (or Perinucleolar-basofilic), OV.3 (or Yolk-Nucleus) and OV.at (or Atresic). This classification is supported by hystochemical differences observed microscopically. The observations have shown that P. albicans has an asyncronous (metacronous) oocyte developing schedule.
