Studies of the phytoplankton performed on the Río Salí included the identification of 94 taxa, of wich 6 species and 2 varieties are mentioned for the first time in NW Argentina: Gomphonema truncatum var. capitatum Patrick; Gyrosigmastrigilis Cleve, Navicula capitatoradiata Germain, N. mobiliensis var. intermedia Maidan, N. tripunctata var schizonemoides (Van Heurck) Patrick, Pinnularia dactylus Ehrenberg, P. gibba Ehrenberg are mentioned for the first time only for Tucumán. Gyrosigma strigilis and Denticula kuetzingii are also new records for Argentina
