Germination pattern and seedling morphology of Pistia stratiotes L. / S. C. Datta; K. K. Biswas

Por: Colaborador(es): Tipo de material: ArtículoIdioma: Inglés Editor: 2006Descripción: 5 páginasTema(s): En: Phyton : Revista Internacional de Botánica Experimental = International Journal of Experimental Botany v. 27 n. 2 (1970)Resumen: Viable seeds of Pistia stratiotes do not germinate in mature due to the low oxygen or light carbon dioxide content of the pond soil in which they are dropped. Prolific growth of the species is made possible through rapid vegetative propagation by stolons. The operculum does not break off readily and the first leaf comes directly from a canopy-like structure. From a notch in the first leaf, the second leaf will arise; the adult plant's symmetry is established in the growing embryo.
